In December last year, I was recovered enough from my operation to treat myself. I was feeling a bit down and needed some festive cheer so decided to go to London and see the Christmas lights (post HERE). I then thought, oh why not make a night of it? So I wanted to find a nice hotel near the main shopping area of London where a lot of the lights are. And so I found the Treehouse Hotel, which only opened in November 2019.
Location of Treehouse Hotel
The Treehouse Hotel sits to the north of the River Thames, close to the main shopping area of the city with easy access to Regent Street and Oxford Street. It’s also within walking distance to The British Museum, The Sherlock Holmes Museum, Regent’s Park and Hyde Park. I think it’s the perfect location for a second (or more) visit to England’s capital city because it enables easy access to some famous but lesser visited sites.
It is a 30 minute walk to the main tourist area including Buckingham Palace, and over an hour to the Tower of London, so if you’re on a first trip to the capital and looking for the most famous sites, then somewhere like Sea Containers (post coming soon), may be a better pick.
Accommodation at Treehouse Hotel
The accommodation at Treehouse Hotel is incredible. I treated myself to a Treehouse Suite, which had some absolutely beautiful views out across the London skyline. Its highlight was definitely the huge soaking bathtub looking out of the huge window – it was pure bliss.
The room itself was also special beyond the bath as all the rooms are designed with a focus on sustainability – for example there is no plastic at all in the rooms. There is a water fountain on each floor and you fill up a glass bottle provided to get your drinking water. The design is also based on a central American treehouse theme, with local products used where ever possible.
Food, Drink & Experiences
There are 4 places to get food and drink in the hotel. At the entrance to the hotel is a coffee shop and breakfast stop called Backyard. It serves a selection of teas and coffee, plus fruit, croissants, yoghurt and other nice treats. Another lovely touch is that guests are encouraged to swap their pre-loved books with a selection on show in Backyard, and guests will find a pre-loved book in their room when checking in!
The main restaurant is called Madera and serves Mexican food, including a mean Brunch served on Sundays. There is then also Pizzeria Mozza if you fancy a pizza, and a rooftop bar called The Nest serving high end cocktails and drinks. All the food and drink I had in the hotel was lovely.
Another unique use for the restaurants is for fitness – Treehouse have partnered with FRAME, a fitness company who provide personal training sessions in your room, on The Nest terrace or even in Regent’s Park nearby. I didn’t do this, but thought it was a unique thing to offer!
