I don’t think I’ve ever needed a trip so much. I have written previously about my really long work hours and major project, which in itself was reason enough for a big trip. Then just a week afterwards, I experienced a pretty traumatic incident at home (everyone and everything is totally OK). Suffice to say, I really needed the break.
I’ve never had four entire weeks off work before, and it was such a joy! The first stop was a Bangkok layover, during which we stayed at the lovely Millennium Hilton, a great choice for an easy, centrally located, stay in the city.
Location of The Millennium Hilton
The Millennium Hilton is located right on the river in Central Bangkok, just across the water from Bangkok’s Chinatown and a short hop away from famous temples such as Wat Arun and Wat Phra. It is also within easy access to Bangkok’s most visited tourist attraction, the Grand Palace.
You can read my full post on Bangkok’s Grand Palace HERE (coming soon).

Right next door to the hotel is Icon Siam, a huge 8 storied mall. We spent half a day there, and it’s perfect for shopping and eating. There is an entire floor dedicated to food, where you can try everything from fried scorpions to roast crocodile – or just grab a delicious Thai curry! We had a full meal in Hong Bao, and then grabbed some Thai street food and bubble tea from the stands. Perfect!

Accommodation at The Millennium Hilton
The accommodation is clean and modern; we stayed in an Executive King Suite overlooking the river. The bedroom was large and spacious, with plenty of room to open our many suitcases, and the bed was super comfy and perfect for a relaxing night’s sleep.

The bathroom was also nice, with a huge sink, big walk in shower, soaking tub and separate toilet. It probably did need a few “finishing touches”, such as repairs to scuffed skirting, and chipped tiles, plus a slightly old and dirty mirror – but on the whole it was nice and the shower was heavenly (especially after a 20+ hour travel day)!
We also had a really lovely view out over the river, perfect for waking up to in the morning.

Food & Drink at The Millennium Hilton
The Millennium Hilton offers a number of food and dining options. We ate in a couple of the restaurants and really enjoyed the food, it’s good quality and reasonably priced.
Restaurants
- FLOW: A sophisticated all-day dining restaurant with a diverse international buffet, offering views of the Chao Phraya River. It serves a variety of cuisines, including Thai, Chinese, Indian, and European dishes, and has a popular Sunday brunch.
- OXBO: A modern, casual restaurant that focuses on bold flavors, open-fire cooking, and seasonal ingredients. It features a curated gin selection and a lively atmosphere.
- Siam Yacht Club: This is a popular restaurant for non-residents with a focus on Asian cuisine and waterfront views.
- The Verandah: A riverside restaurant offering a more relaxed dining experience with a focus on Thai and international dishes.

Bars
- ThreeSixty Rooftop Bar: An outdoor bar located on the 31st floor, offering 360-degree views of the city and the river. It’s a perfect spot to relax with a drink.
- ThreeSixty Jazz Lounge: An indoor jazz lounge on the 32nd floor, providing a more romantic and upscale atmosphere with live jazz music, city views, and cocktails.

Other
- The hotel also offers poolside snacks at its rooftop pool (see more below)
- Full room service is on offer until 11pm, and a limited room service menu is available 24 hours a day.
- The Executive Lounge serves breakfast, afternoon tea and drinks for all guests staying in Executive Suites, or who hold Hilton Gold member status (thank you to my husband for this one!)

Amenities & Experiences at The Millennium Hilton
The main draw of the hotel is its amazing outdoor pool overlooking the river. The views are lovely out across to the temples and skyscrapers of Bangkok, and the loungers are super comfortable. We also really enjoyed the poolside snacks and smoothies – perfect for relaxing on our layover!

The hotel also offers a fitness centre, and a spa which offers numerous treatments. I didn’t get a treatment as I’d planned to have massages at our next stop on the trip but I did peek in to the spa and it looked nice.
Finally, the hotel also offers a concierge which can make recommendations, taxi bookings and offer baggage storage. In my experience, hotel booked taxis always come at a premium so whenever I’m in Asia, I use the Grab App to order my lifts.

And there you have it – a whistle stop stay in Bangkok. The Millennium Hilton is definitely a hotel I’d recommend if you’re looking for a nice, big, easy option in the centre of the city. Let me know what you think! A lot of posts on South East Asia will be following too, I can’t wait to take you on the adventure with me.
Stay safe and happy travelling!
